Clarification

During this phase you can ask a clarifying question about any idea that has been posted. In this phase you are attempting to 'deepen' or broaden your understanding of what the other members have posted. We learn best when we get to ask questions of each other. It helps to clear away the confusion and get a glimpse into what the author of the idea was thinking. Many times following a brainstorming session we are left confused or unsure of meaning, the point of the Clarification Round is to eliminate any confusion. During this process we are also building a common language among members that wll deepen the quality of the next round of activites and ultimately final planning.

Directions:
  1. Go BACK to Brainstorming.
  2. Click on Brainstorming Discussion Page .
  3. Choose any Idea by clicking on the Subject of the posted item of interest and ask a clarifying question.
  4. Click Save.
  5. If you are the author of the idea choose your entry and reply to any/all of the questions asked.
  6. You may respond to as many responses or ideas as you would like. There is no limit to the number of responses the system can handle.
  7. Choose another Subject and repeat the process.
What will happen here is that several members may ask questions about the same topic, you will have the opportunity to see all of the questions and responses. Over time you will see an idea expand and become clearer to you. The object here is to create a dialogue about all of the posted ideas building understanding as we go. Ask as many clarification questions as you need to to become comortable with the posted idea.

Rules:
  1. Ask only questions that lead to clarification. For instance you could ask, "could you explain what you meant by factor X?" or "I always thought factor X meant something different. Could you explain or elaborte on what you think factor X is? or "could you give me an example of what you meant here?"
  2. Please do not make declaritive statements in favor or opposition to a particular post. We are very used to making such statements and it may be hard not to offer them at this point. Unfortunately such statements have a way of ending or blocking further discussion which will defeat our purpose. As in the brainstorming phase the moderator may have to give some members a gentle reminder not to make such statements. The purpose of the moderator is to keep the communication and knowledge building and moving forward.
  3. You may respond to as many responses or ideas as you would like. There is no limit to the number of responses the system can handle.
